Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: US military strikes on Iranian targets constitute serious war crimes

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement at local time on the 9th, strongly condemning attacks carried out by U.S. forces at dawn that day on multiple locations in Iran’s southern coastal provinces and on two bridges along the railway line in the east leading to the holy city of Mashhad. The Iranian side believes that such actions undoubtedly constitute serious war crimes, and emphasized that the Iranian people will steadfastly defend the country’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national security. The statement said that within the past 48 hours, the United States has launched criminal attacks on Iran under the pretext of “the relevant incidents involving several vessels violating passage through the Strait of Hormuz on the 7th.” These actions not only openly violate Article 2, paragraph 4 of the United Nations Charter, but also seriously violate the provisions of Article 1 and Article 5 of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, and have become the United States’ excuse for its continued failure to comply with the memorandum. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that the U.S. side has publicly acknowledged non-compliance with the memorandum of understanding signed on June 18, which is yet another proof that the U.S. government has acted in bad faith, dishonorably, recklessly, and maliciously.
