To be honest, from what I’ve observed, a lot of people watch large transfers or changes in exchange hot/cold wallets on-chain and think it’s “smart money” moving. But the data you’re seeing may already be minutes—or even longer—late.
Things like nodes, RPCs, and indexers are essentially a black box. The RPC node your wallet or browser calls can be different, and the synced state can also differ. For some public nodes, to avoid crashing, they may implement rate limiting, delayed syncing, or even cache historical data. The transfer you see may already have been packaged by the miner long ago—it just shows up for you only now.
Indexers are even less to be trusted. Aggregated data inherently has latency. Especially when hot wallets move, exchanges may have already handled the situation internally, while you’re still shouting “smart money is entering.”
Anyway, my approach is: don’t worship real-time on-chain data—especially don’t use it for short-term trading decisions. What you see as “the truth” may just be noise that someone else is letting you see. What’s truly useful is your own position management and discipline.
