I just looked back at the on-chain records from the same period last year and found that some transactions are marked vaguely—for example, when it comes to those cross-chain back-and-forth trades, whether those entries count as costs or not is unclear. Anyway, I’m too lazy to go over it until now. If the tax season really comes and they want to check, I guess I’ll be in a complete breakdown on the spot.
Recently I’ve been seeing people in the group complaining about MEV sorters, and honestly it’s the same logic with taxes—on-chain data is right there in plain sight, but once it ends up in your hands it turns into a messy pot. My approach is: after every transaction, immediately take a screenshot, including the gas and slippage, and then record the txid in a spreadsheet. Anyway, don’t expect to just finish it by scanning a csv with a program at the end of the year.
By the way, miners getting yelled at by retail users isn’t something that’s started just one or two days ago. But the ones running sorters really do seem to be earning it with a straight face. I’m not very convinced it’s fair, but keeping your own data for yourself can’t hurt.
