Honestly, with these three things—hardware wallets, multisig, and social recovery—if you’re not at a certain scale, there’s really no need to overthink them. Right now I only have a small MetaMask plus a cold wallet. My assets aren’t big enough for the big players to be targeting, and it can’t stop a thief, but at least it prevents me from making mistakes and sliding. In my circle of friends, someone’s assets went up and they’ve been obsessing over adding multisig every day. But once, because multisig was too much of a hassle, they missed an opportunity to arbitrage—losing more than they’d have lost to a theft. Pretty dark humor.

As for social recovery, the threshold is actually a bit high. You have to trust the few people involved, and they also need to know how to operate it; otherwise, if something goes wrong, when you cry for help they’ll only ask, “How do you use this address?” Anyway, with the current airdrop season and all those point-based task platforms that people are grinding through like it’s a job, anti–Sybil measures have gotten so intense it feels like spycraft, and on-chain security has ironically become a luxury. For now, I’ll just do it like this—I'll upgrade my setup configuration only if I get rugged one day for real.
