CLARITY Act Hearing A Turning Point for U.S. Crypto

The House hearing on the CLARITY Act marks a major step toward regulatory clarity for digital assets in the United States. Rather than being crypto's "last chance," it represents the strongest push yet for a clear legal framework.

A key provision would split oversight between the SEC and the CFTC. Under the proposed 20% blockchain control rule, a network with no single entity controlling more than 20% of its governance or token supply could be regulated as a digital commodity by the CFTC instead of being treated as a security by the SEC.

The bill also protects non-custodial DeFi developers, validators, and infrastructure providers from being regulated like traditional financial institutions solely for supporting decentralized networks.

While bipartisan support has strengthened its momentum, the legislation still requires further votes before it can become law. If enacted, the CLARITY Act could shift the U.S. from regulation by enforcement to a clearer, innovation-friendly framework for the crypto industry.
