Just saw an infographic explaining a sandwich attack, and honestly it stung. Usually, when regular users interact on-chain, we feel like we’re in a market game—only to find that behind the scenes, MEV bots are watching the gaps between your orders, quietly jumping the line to skim profits.
Recently during the airdrop season, everyone has been grinding points to fight off sybils; we thought that if we just do more operations and go deeper in interactions, it would be enough. But sorting power—put simply—still comes down to nodes. The gas fees you carefully calculated may end up after some whale because your bundle gets placed behind them.
I even sketched a rough diagram where I picture the “queue” on the blockchain as a bunch of people squeezed into a tiny window. Behind the window is a VIP back door—bots just take the key and cut ahead.
As for self-protection, try splitting transactions into smaller amounts and avoiding peak gas time periods, or using privacy transaction protocols to bypass public pools (but it’s complicated and I’m still learning).
What I don’t regret is spending the time to figure out the logic behind this “black-box operation”—at least when I get skimmed, I don’t feel as upset inside.
