The CIA previously secretly investigated the relationship between the UAE AI company G42 and China.

The Wall Street Journal disclosed today that this probe took place before the United States allowed more advanced chip exports to G42.
At the time, Washington wanted to bring the UAE into the U.S. AI technology ecosystem, but worried that G42 was getting too close to Chinese companies.
So the CIA assigned a senior operations officer with long experience handling Middle East affairs to check whether the company could safely access the United States’ cutting-edge technology.
This investigation helped the U.S. government dispel some of its concerns.
After that, G42 reduced its ties with Chinese companies and entered the Microsoft and U.S. chip supply ecosystem.
