The South Korean government plans to invest about 4 trillion won to purchase 10,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin GPU.

Odaily Planet Daily reports that the South Korean government plans to invest about 4 trillion KRW next year to purchase 10k of NVIDIA’s latest GPU, Vera Rubin, to support the expansion of public services such as “AI for All” and the construction of national AI infrastructure.

The Ministry of Science and ICT of South Korea plans to extend the “AI computing resource utilization infrastructure reinforcement project,” and will configure all GPUs introduced next year as Vera Rubin. The project is handled by private enterprises such as cloud service providers operating data centers, covering the entire process of purchasing, building, and servicing the GPUs, with funding from the government budget.

Over the past two years, the South Korean government has cumulatively secured more than 30k GPUs through this project and similar efforts, and has provided them to public and private sectors. Compared with the previous-generation Blackwell architecture, Vera Rubin offers up to 6x higher training performance and over 8x higher inference performance. A related official at the Ministry of Science and ICT said that the GPU acquisition plan and budget scale have not yet been determined. Industry insiders say that currently there is insufficient spare capacity in data center space, making it not easy to secure large-scale new resources before next year. The government is evaluating multiple alternative solutions.
