I’ve been looking into the IBC implementation again, and the more I look, the more I feel that cross-chain is more complicated than I imagined—the trust model is more complex than it seems. Every time you have a bridge or message passing, in plain terms it’s moving “data from here” to “over there,” but the components you need to trust in the middle are plenty when you break them down: validator sets, relayers, DA-layer consensus, and even oracles sometimes get involved too. With modularization getting hot and the DA layer being split out to focus specifically on storage and availability certification, developers are pretty excited—but when users look at it, they think, hey, why are there more chains, and why are the bridges even more fragmented? Anyway, I’ve gotten into the habit of, before every cross-chain attempt, pausing and running through the roadmap and the trust dependencies of each step—otherwise I don’t feel confident. Pause, review the audits, and then decide whether to go for it.
