I just chatted with an old player. He said that in this recent meme rotation, he feels from the on-chain data that it could still surge higher, but he was half a step late. The coin doubled, then dumped in a waterfall—he almost got trapped as the buyer at the top.
Honestly, I’m increasingly convinced that “on-chain” isn’t instantaneously synchronized.
Take RPC nodes and indexers, for example. When you see a transfer from that address, it may already be several seconds—or even longer—behind. Better RPCs can be a bit faster, but most free nodes have noticeably higher latency. As for indexers? Forget it. They first fetch the underlying data, and only then show you the interface—so in between, it’s like there’s a wall.
That’s why newcomers who “hear the news and chase the pump,” watching the numbers on DexScreener to rush in, are actually making decisions based on data delayed by latency. No wonder old players keep shouting not to catch the last baton—but the problem is: how do you know whether that baton has arrived? On-chain data itself isn’t real-time. It can’t beat the in-arena machines that sprint ahead.
Sometimes I get carried away too. I think a certain address bought really aggressively, so I rush to follow. But when I calm down and think about it, the “aggressive” move I see might be something someone already finished long ago.
So now I’d rather move slower—wait for a couple of block confirmations before looking again, or just give up and not trade. I’d rather miss it than get stuck buying. After all, even if on-chain data is “more authoritative,” it can’t outweigh “time difference.”
What you really need to be reminded is: don’t trust the numbers on your screen from a few seconds ago—they may already be outdated.
