$ALEO On Saturday, at 125 locations in the United States, protesters staged demonstrations against the expansion of AI data centers. Reuters reported that on Saturday, July 18, protesters gathered at more than 125 locations across the country to oppose the runaway expansion of AI data centers. The demonstrations, organized by the grassroots group Humans First, highlight growing public concerns that infrastructure demands are increasingly fueling the AI boom. A Reuters poll in June found that only 33% of respondents believed the benefits of rapidly building data centers outweigh the downsides, and only 14% supported building such facilities in their own communities. Key concerns include soaring electricity costs, water resources running out, and environmental deterioration. Humans First called for promoting transparent development processes, protecting local resources, ensuring communities can access opportunities for high-paying jobs, and establishing strict accountability mechanisms.
