On July 18, the New York Times reported that as Robinhood brings prediction markets into its app, concerns that its platform may take advantage of younger, less experienced investors have been further intensified. In addition, many people to this day still associate Robinhood with the meme-stock frenzy that swept the market years ago, and Robinhood is one of the key drivers of that phenomenon.

Now, Robinhood wants the public to see more than just these labels. The company has become one of the institutions responsible for operating the Trump Accounts for children’s investment accounts program, giving Robinhood an opportunity to build closer ties with the next generation of investors, while also further strengthening its relationship with Washington’s political establishment.

In response, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said this move is not intended to encourage speculation, but rather to expand financial inclusion and help more American families participate in long-term investing. Robinhood has already adjusted some aspects of its product design and is trying to transform from a “speculative trading platform” into a broader financial services company.
