According to data from a South Korean exchange, the KOSPI index fell by 655.34 points (8.77%) in the week of July 13-16, reaching 6,820.6 points. On July 13, 14, and 16, the sell-side circuit breaker mechanism was triggered, and on July 15, the buy-side circuit breaker mechanism was triggered. Concerns in the semiconductor sector and heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East weighed on market sentiment. Chip-related stocks fell sharply: Samsung Electronics dropped 10.53%, SK Hynix fell 15.5%, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Solutions plunged 19.38%. Among high-capitalization stocks, SK Enernics rose 21.35%, after the government previously planned to roll out a renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) platform; SK Innovation rose 17.89%, as oil prices increased amid uncertainty from the conflict, benefiting energy stocks.
