- It comes from Li Xikun—referring to the moment when a leader, looking bright and polished and draped in Tsinghua Harvard or big-company titles, calls out shallow political stances/opinions; the small-bumpkin voters in the audience then blindly follow and shout along. However, the policies only deliver short-term results, while the debt is passed on to future generations—implementing no long-term, but instead short-term-painful, beneficial reforms/measures. Eventually, it evolves into 《Republic of Bumpkins》
