I invented a new unit of measurement: zhe.

When I went to play with Europe icon before, my teammates didn’t really have a sense of how big European countries are, so I invented a new area measurement unit: zhe.

Because Zhejiang Province icon’s area is close to 100k square kilometers, rounding to an integer, 1 zhe = 100k square kilometers, which is very suitable for measuring the size of European countries.

For example, Poland icon’s area is 310k square kilometers; 1 pol = 3.1 zhe. Ancient people long ago invented a set phrase to explain this phenomenon—so-called “one pol, three zhes.” It means that one Poland is about the size of three Zhejiang Province icons. With this conversion, it becomes easy to understand.

Why is it called Zhejiang Province? Because 100k is easier to calculate, so it’s suitable as the conversion unit. Also, Jiangsu Province icon is about the same size as Zhejiang, also close to 100k, so you can use 1 su as the unit. As for other provinces, the calculations aren’t as convenient.

Now let’s convert a few more examples. Among European countries, France icon’s area is comparatively large: 550k square kilometers, equivalent to 5.5 Zhejiang Provinces; 1 fra = 5.5 zhe.

Spain icon is also not small: 500k square kilometers = 5 zhe; Germany icon 350k square kilometers = 3.5 zhe; Italy icon 300k square kilometers = 3 zhe; the UK icon 240k square kilometers = 2.4 zhe.
