Google Cloud announced that former OpenAI engineer Ryan Lopopolo has joined as Principal Engineer for Agentic Google Cloud Platform. In his article "Harness Engineering," he proposed having agents participate in software development by configuring context, tools, permissions, evaluations, and feedback loops for agents. An internal experiment he participated in showed that Codex produced approximately 1 million lines of code in an empty repository over five months, covering code, tests, CI, documentation, and internal tools, mostly done by Codex, with humans responsible for goals and acceptance. This move indicates that Google Cloud is not only selling models and computing power but also strengthening its engineering capabilities for enterprise-grade agents.
