I set a gas limit reminder last night, originally to prevent slip-ups, but now I stare at that number for an extra three seconds every time before submitting—it actually makes me more anxious...
When the mempool is congested, your transaction is just a grain of sand in a digital ocean. It might be picked up in the next block, or it could get pushed dozens of spots back by higher gas fees cutting in line. I once waited twenty minutes with no movement, canceled and resent it, only to have the original transaction suddenly come back to life—both ended up charging me fees. That feeling of wanting to curse the chain but not knowing who to blame.
Now that rates are extreme, people in the group are arguing whether it will reverse or keep piling in. I’ve turned my slippage tolerance down a notch. I’d rather earn less than get sandwiched. Bottom line, this business is just a battle against your own greed. Setting reminders is a way to give yourself an out. As for whether I’ll actually follow through—I’ll see next time my finger gets too fast.
