🇨🇦🇺🇸 Canada is pitching a new West Coast pipeline as breaking US dependence, but where the extra oil actually comes from.

There are only two sources for a pipeline like this. Diverting existing US-bound exports to Asia, which shifts the destination but adds almost no new jobs, royalties, or GDP. Or genuinely new oil sands production, which is the only scenario that justifies the tens of billions in capital.
Nobody has locked in the long-term shipping contracts that would prove producers actually want the second option.
