Gold Finance reported on July 3 that, according to CNBC, U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday refused to commit to signing a bipartisan housing bill—which had already easily passed Congress more than a week earlier—and instead redirected the discussion to a highly controversial election bill, the so-called SAVE America Act. Trump said that he would not sign the housing bill until Congress submits the election bill to him for signature. Trump said: “I believe the SAVE America Act is the most important bill we have right now, for years to come and beyond.” The bill would require voters to show a photo ID when voting and to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. When discussing the housing bill, Trump said: “There are a lot of provisions in there from the Democrats that I don’t even think are appropriate, but that’s okay. But I’ve made my position clear: I’d rather not sign any bill before I sign the SAVE America Act.”
