Driven by Trump tariffs, an aluminum smelter in the United States (Maryland and Missouri) will resume production before the end of the year after being shut down for two years.

Golden Finance reported on July 1 that, according to foreign media, a closed aluminum smelter in Missouri, USA, will resume production by the end of this year, which will help boost US aluminum output against the backdrop of the Trump administration's push to revitalize domestic industry. Magnitude 7 Metals will restart part of the smelter's capacity, adding approximately 75,000 metric tons of annual production. A memo shows that the company attributes this restart to the aluminum tariff policy implemented by US President Trump under Section 232, which targets imported aluminum used in the automotive, can, and construction industries. The aluminum smelter ceased production in 2024.
