According to Financefeeds, the U.S. Department of Justice has disclosed that Peter Stokes, a 19-year-old dual citizen of the United States and Estonia, has been extradited from Finland to the U.S., and has been charged with conspiracy, computer intrusion, and fraud for allegedly participating in the cybercrime organization Scattered Spider. Prosecutors allege that Scattered Spider is linked to more than 100 network intrusions and obtained over $100 million in cryptocurrency ransoms. Stokes was arrested in Finland in April 2026 on an Interpol Red Notice and made his first appearance in federal court in Chicago on July 1. The indictment states that Stokes and others attacked a luxury jewelry retailer in May 2025, demanding approximately $8 million in cryptocurrency as a ransom; the company did not pay the ransom, but incurred more than $2 million in losses due to business disruption, forensic investigation, and remediation.

19 years old and already this fierce, Scattered Spider sounds like a gaming guild, but turns out to be a ransomware gang.
