Ministry of Commerce spokesperson He Yadong introduced the first meeting of the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism at a regular press conference on the 2nd, stating that the China-EU Trade and Investment Consultation Mechanism is a new regular communication mechanism established by China and the EU in the economic and trade field, with both sides agreeing to hold 1 to 2 ministerial meetings each year. China has invited European Commission Trade and Economic Security Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to visit China this autumn to hold the second regular meeting of the consultation mechanism.

He Yadong introduced that during the first meeting, both sides focused on starting from three areas to promote upward balance in trade, rather than downward balance: First, emerging areas, where both sides will strive to expand cooperation in AI, green transition, and other fields; second, potential areas, where both sides will deeply explore cooperation potential in service trade and other areas; third, problem areas, where both sides will promote the gradual resolution of each other's concerns through market access consultations. Both sides reached a consensus on the new positioning of China-EU economic and trade relations, namely stable and balanced key trade partners between China and the EU. This helps improve the expectations of Chinese and European enterprises and injects more certainty and positive energy into the economic development of China, the EU, and the world.
