Gemini Spark lands on macOS! Use one sentence to organize PDFs, automatically create budget sheets, and soon you'll be able to control your Mac with your phone.
Google has officially integrated the Spark smart agent into the macOS desktop version of the Gemini app, evolving the AI from a chat box into a local assistant capable of controlling the computer. After obtaining authorization, Spark can organize all PDFs in the Downloads folder with a single sentence, automatically create a budget spreadsheet in Google Workspace using local invoices and update it periodically; the feature for remote control of Mac via phone is "coming soon" and not yet available.

Key Highlights
Mac is a user group that major companies are fiercely competing for. This time, Google is bringing Gemini Spark directly into your computer, opening local folders, reading your invoices, and doing the work for you.
On July 1, Google officially announced that the Spark smart agent has landed on the macOS desktop version of the Gemini app, starting with version v1.80.15.516. It is first available as a beta to US-based Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older. Those who want to try it can download it at gemini.google/mac.
Organize the Downloads Folder with One Sentence
Google gave two most convincing use cases.
First: Say one sentence to Spark to "organize all PDFs in the Downloads folder into a designated folder," compressing hours of manual file sorting into an instant action. This sounds simple, but it requires the AI to understand your folder structure, recognize file types, and make correct judgments without explicit path instructions—not just relying on keyword searches.
Second: Read the latest invoice on your computer, automatically create a budget spreadsheet in Google Workspace, and set it to update regularly. This effectively bridges local financial data with the cloud office, turning the desktop from a mere staging area into a starting point that can actively send data.
Google Workspace is Google's enterprise cloud office suite, covering tools like Docs, Sheets, Gmail, etc. Spark directly connects local PDFs on the desktop with this system, eliminating manual uploads and copy-paste steps.
Remote Control Mac from Phone Coming Soon
The remote execution feature, officially marked as "coming soon," is the most imaginative design of Spark this time. It will allow you to issue multi-step tasks to your Mac at home from your phone. The official example is finding a sales report on the Mac, extracting the total revenue figure, and then emailing you the result—your Mac continues executing tasks even when you're not near it.
Using an Android phone to remotely control an Apple Silicon Mac essentially allows Google's AI layer to operate across the hardware of two competing camps, letting users enjoy cross-platform convenience without switching devices. Apple probably won't be particularly happy about this arrangement.
MCP Open, Canva and Dropbox Also Join
In terms of connectivity, Spark is pushing forward simultaneously.
First, MCP (Model Context Protocol) support has started rolling out, allowing developers to directly connect their own applications to Spark to create more customized AI assistants. MCP is a protocol that standardizes communication between AI agents and external tools, essentially equipping Spark with a universal plug-in system, enabling more third-party tools to plug in directly without Google having to manually wire them one by one.
Second, newly connected third-party apps include Google Keep, Google Tasks, Canva, Dropbox, as well as Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals, covering notes, design, cloud storage, restaurant reservations, rental housing, and more. Official example: One-click organize scattered inspiration notes from Keep into a to-do list in Tasks; or directly access cloud files from Dropbox or Canva during a chat. These connection features will first go live on the web and mobile versions over the next week, with the macOS version following in a few weeks.
Spark also supports real-time tracking, allowing it to continuously monitor updates on topics like blogs, news, finance, social media, shopping, weather, sports, etc., and proactively notify you when events trigger. This upgrades it from a passive Q&A to an active on-duty AI agent.
Google is pulling Spark out of the chat box and into the operating system. The next step is allowing phones to remotely control the AI on the computer from across devices. From organizing PDFs to remotely searching reports, these capabilities are not new individually, but combining them and putting them on the desktop is what Google is truly testing.
