Coin World News, Sun Tianxiang, the head of the original domestic large model MOSS development, has officially joined Baidu as the head of the Basic Model R&D Department (BMU) and also entered the Baidu Model Committee (BMC). Born in 1997, Sun Tianxiang was the first to propose the industry implementation approach of Large Model as a Service (LMAAS) during his doctoral studies, and his research results were adopted by mainstream models such as Baidu's ERNIE 3.0. After graduation, he founded a large model startup company, Rixingji Intelligence. Baidu recently adjusted its AI organizational structure, dividing large model R&D into the Basic Model R&D Department (BMU) and the Application Model R&D Department (AMU), with the latter led by Jia Lei.

ERNIE 3.0 used his results, and now the person is here. Baidu has essentially invited the original author of the paper back home—that’s what it feels like.

The concept of LMAAS is indeed ahead of its time. Being able to propose such a practical approach while still a PhD student, no wonder Baidu wanted to snatch him up.

Has Analemma Intelligence just been founded not long ago? It got absorbed by Baidu so quickly—looks like it’s really difficult to independently grow a large model.

A big shot born in 1997, from MOSS to Baidu, this resume makes me so jealous.

BMU and AMU split, Sun Tianxiang manages the foundation models, Jia Lei manages applications. This division of labor is quite clear. Baidu has finally figured it out.
