Mars Finance News, July 2 — Iran and the United States concluded a round of indirect talks on Wednesday, with no signs of progress toward lasting peace, instead focusing on issues they had claimed were already resolved when announcing a temporary agreement two weeks ago.
According to Reuters, sources familiar with the discussions said the negotiators from both sides spent two days in Doha discussing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and the unfreezing of Iranian funds, two key issues under the preliminary agreement.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry stated that the next meeting will take place after the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which is scheduled for July 9.
In Washington, U.S. President Trump said that progress is being made on the possibility of limiting Iran's nuclear program. "Denuclearization of Iran is going well," he told reporters. "They had very good meetings, and we'll see what happens."
However, sources said that the nuclear program issue was not mentioned in the talks, which were technical in nature.
