CoinWorld News, citing AFP via bfm business, reported that French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that since the beginning of this year, France has recorded 77 cases related to the cryptocurrency industry involving kidnapping, illegal detention, extortion, or attempted crimes, up from 45 cases in 2025. Nuñez said that these cases are serious in nature, and industry concerns are justified, but the emergency measures taken over the past year have shown results, with approximately 200 people already arrested either after the incidents or during the preventive stage. Nuñez stated that France will launch a more "ambitious" new plan, focusing on strengthening intelligence exchanges, deepening cooperation with the French Digital Asset Association (ADAN), and enhancing coordination both among law enforcement agencies and with foreign judicial and law enforcement bodies.

Kidnapping and extortion have appeared; this industry really has a mix of good and bad. How useful the ADAN partnership is still remains to be seen.

Seventy-seven cases look scary, but 200 people being arrested shows that they are indeed taking action. Wait for the new plan to come out and see if we can cut off the source.
