2026 Honours List | Yu Tat-sung, Director of Kai Tak Sports Park, presented with the Chief Executive’s Community Service Award Certificate in recognition of his contributions to the preparation of the National Games
The government today commended a number of people in the community. Among them, Yu Dasong, Director (Security and Critical Computer Systems) of Kai Tak Sports Park, received the “Chief Executive’s Community Service Award” in recognition of his contributions to the preparations for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for the Disabled, and the 9th Special Olympics National Games. He said that he felt honored, and added:
“This award is by no means for an individual, but rather the result of the collective efforts of an entire team. From frontline operations staff to back-of-house support teams, the professional dedication and steadfast commitment of every colleague are all indispensable parts of a successful outcome. I sincerely thank the National Games Coordination Office of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau for their careful guidance, as well as the strong support of various government departments, volunteer teams, and the general public. It is precisely through seamless cooperation across all sectors of society and working in concert that all events of the National Games could be held efficiently, in an orderly manner, and with safety.”
The Sports Park said that the National Games jointly organized by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau are an important milestone in promoting regional sports cooperation and integrated development. As one of the main venues in the Hong Kong competition zone, the Park bears the important task of hosting multiple events, including handball (men’s), rugby sevens, fencing, and boccia for Paralympic athletes. During the event preparation process, the Park’s team had to face multiple challenges, including the technical requirements of different sports events, international-level venue standards, cross-regional operating models, and complex work related to security, transportation, crowd management, and information system management during the events. It also needed to carry out cross-departmental coordination, working closely with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Police, the Fire Services Department, the Transport Department, and medical emergency units, to ensure that all arrangements align smoothly; at the same time, it maintained efficient communication with sports associations, the event organizing committee, and relevant stakeholders, completing all high-standard preparations within a limited timeframe.
Yu Dasong: Continuing to Uphold the Spirit of Continuous Improvement to Promote the Development of Sports in Hong Kong
Yu Dasong said that the National Games preparation period coincided with the key stage when Kai Tak Sports Park had just been completed and was gradually moving into operations. The Park was in a phase of exploration and optimization in areas such as facility operations, alignment of event standards, and the establishment of internal procedures. In addition, because there are differences among regions in event rules, technical standards, and operating models, the team had to carry out extensive coordination, testing, and adjustments to meet the requirements of national-level events. During this process, professional input from sports professionals and repeated cross-agency drills and testing greatly improved overall preparation efficiency and quality, providing an important guarantee for the successful conduct of the Games.
Looking ahead, Yu Dasong said that Kai Tak Sports Park will continue to uphold the spirit of continuous improvement, fully align with the SAR government’s sports development strategy, and help promote the development of sports in Hong Kong toward the directions of popularization, elite development, event-driven growth, professionalization, and industrialization. At the same time, the Park will actively introduce more international sports, cultural, and entertainment events, deepen the synergy of “sports + tourism” and “events + tourism,” drive economic growth, and enhance Hong Kong’s international image.
Also, this morning, since the Sports Park held its inaugural flag-raising ceremony and sports experience fair at Central Plaza to celebrate the first “July 1” anniversary of Hong Kong’s return, the atmosphere at the site has been lively, attracting large numbers of citizens to take part. Through the solemn flag-raising ceremony and a variety of sports experience activities, everyone shared the joy of the festival and demonstrated a sense of community cohesion.
