To celebrate the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, the Hong Kong government and people from all sectors have rolled out a variety of offers in areas such as dining, shopping, and entertainment. This year, more than 3,400 restaurants are offering discounts. As in previous years, bureau directors have teamed up to go out to different districts, sharing the discounts with residents and showing support for local consumption.

July 1 Discounts | Dining discounts for groups of people; Financial Secretary drops by halal restaurants

In recent years, the Hong Kong government has promoted Hong Kong as a “Muslim-friendly” tourist city and has been promoting halal-certified dining. Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po visited the Happy Halal Delicacies at the Nga Keng Bridge Halal Hui Keung at the Goose Neck Market. Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing, Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong Wai-lun, and Deputy Secretary for Justice Cheung Kwok-kwan continue to go together to a cha chaan teng in Sheung Wan, enjoying a 71% discount on the entire bill for July 1. Cheuk said that with the appeal of a 71% discount on dine-in bills, the venue was very busy, and residents were enjoying their meals. Director of Health and Medical Services Lo Chung-mau and Deputy Director of Health and Medical Services Fennie Wan Fan-wen also patronized a Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng. Director of Home Affairs for Chinese Youth Ma Mei-juan and Deputy Director of Home Affairs for Chinese Youth Liang Hung-ching went to a restaurant in Central for tea, enjoying a 71% discount on the entire bill together. Director of Commerce and Economic Development Yau Ying-wah and a political assistant stopped by McDonald’s for coffee. He urged everyone to go out and walk around with family today, “eat, play, and spend.” In the afternoon, Director of Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong went to a restaurant in Cyberport Mall for lunch. The restaurant joined the Cyberport incubation programme in 2018 and collaborates with multiple local organizations.

July 1 Discounts | Yeung Ho-pei Ying visits Lei Seng Chun; urges people to stay and spend in Hong Kong

Director of Public Service Ngai Ho-pei Ying visited Lei Seng Chun, which was built in 1931 and has now been revitalized as a declared monument. She also enjoyed July 1 discounts, sampling a variety of liang cha (cooling herbal tea). She called on members of the public to stay in Hong Kong together and support local consumption. Director of the Financial Services and the Treasury Hui Ching-yu also chose to enjoy turtle jelly and liang cha (cooling herbal tea).

Director of Transport and Logistics Frank Chan Mo-ping took today’s limited free Star Ferry route from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai, hoping that the public would experience Hong Kong’s mobile landmark with historical charm together. Director of Labour and Welfare Chris Sun Yuk-han went to Yau Wah Hong Kong Goods in Jordan to buy health equipment and table tennis paddles at the return-handover anniversary discount, easing work pressure.

Today, the Hong Kong Jockey Club also specially rolled out multiple offers. Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok-ki attended the opening ceremony of the “Hong Kong Celebration of the Handover Race Day” at Sha Tin Racecourse. Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung, together with members of the Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps, and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, visited the Space Museum to tour the exhibition “China Manned Space Journey,” learning about the country’s remarkable achievements in its space industry, and also shared the story of Li Jiaying borrowing to serve in the Security Bureau back then.
