Golden Finance reported on July 2 that according to the AXIOS website, U.S. and Iranian negotiators are holding talks in Doha, focusing on the Strait of Hormuz issue.
The Trump administration told Iran that the benefits Iran would gain from the nuclear deal would far exceed the revenue it could obtain by collecting Strait tolls.
The report said that U.S. Middle East envoy Witkoff and Trump senior advisor Kushner met in Doha on Tuesday with the Qatari Prime Minister and other Qatari officials acting as mediators between the U.S. and Iran.
On Wednesday, they met with the Emir of Qatar.
Witkoff and Kushner have been trying to convey to Iran that its demand for tolls could undermine a final U.S.-Iran deal that would be more favorable to Iran.
"The message from the U.S. to Iran is 'take the long view,'" a U.S. official said.
The official said that if the U.S. lifts all sanctions under the deal, the revenue Iran could obtain from freely developing and selling oil and other resources "would be 100 times higher than what they would get from trying to collect tolls."
