The government today honored a number of community figures. Among them, Yu Dat-song, Director of Safety and Critical Computer Systems at the Kai Tak Sports Park, received the “Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service” in recognition of his contributions to the preparation work for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th National Special Olympics. He said that he felt honored, and added:

“This award is by no means meant for an individual; it is the result of the joint efforts of an entire team. From frontline operations staff to the logistics support team, the professional dedication and steadfast commitment of every colleague are indispensable parts of a successful outcome. I sincerely thank the National Games Coordination Office of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau for its meticulous guidance, as well as the strong support from various government departments, volunteer teams, and the general public. It is precisely through seamless cooperation among all sectors of society and working together with one heart that the events of the National Games could be held efficiently, in an orderly manner, and safely.”

The Sports Park stated that the National Games jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao is an important milestone in promoting regional sports cooperation and integrated development. As one of the main venues in the Hong Kong competition zone, the Park shoulders the important responsibility of hosting multiple events, including men’s handball, rugby sevens, fencing, and the Paralympic sport of boccia (hard ground bowls). During the event preparation process, the Park team had to face multiple challenges, including the technical requirements of different sports disciplines, international-level venue standards, cross-regional operational models, and complex work such as security, transportation, crowd management, and information system management during the events. It also required cross-department collaboration, working closely with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the police, the Fire Services Department, the Transport Department, and medical emergency units to ensure smooth handover and alignment of all arrangements. At the same time, the Park maintained efficient communication with sports associations, the event organizing committee, and relevant stakeholders, completing all high-standard preparatory work within a limited timeframe.

Yu Dat-song: Continuing to Uphold the Spirit of Excellence and Drive Sports Development in Hong Kong

Yu Dat-song said that during the National Games preparation period, Kai Tak Sports Park was in a crucial stage—having just been completed and gradually moving into operation. The Park was in an exploratory and optimization phase in areas such as facility operations, aligning competition standards, and establishing internal procedures. In addition, since there are differences among different regions in competition rules, technical standards, and operational models, the team had to carry out extensive coordination, testing, and adjustments to meet the requirements for national-level events. In this process, the professional input provided by sports experts, along with multiple cross-institutional drills and tests, greatly improved overall preparation efficiency and quality, providing important assurance for the smooth running of the events.

Looking ahead, Yu Dat-song said that Kai Tak Sports Park will continue to uphold the spirit of excellence, fully cooperate with the SAR government’s sports development strategy, and drive the development of sports in Hong Kong toward popularization, elite development, major-event hosting, professionalism, and industrialization. At the same time, the Park will actively introduce more international sports, cultural, and entertainment major events, deepen the synergy of “sports + tourism” and “major events + tourism,” and help drive economic growth while enhancing Hong Kong’s international image.

In addition, this morning, since the Sports Park held its opening ceremony at the Central Plaza, it also solemnly conducted its first flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 1 July handover anniversary and hosted a sports experience fair. The atmosphere was lively and attracted large numbers of residents to participate. Through the solemn flag-raising ceremony and a wide variety of sports experiences, all participants came together to share the joy of the festival and demonstrate the cohesion of the community.
