It has been three years since the implementation of northbound travel for Hong Kong vehicles. Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Chan Mei-po, said on a social media platform that in the past three years, the cumulative number of vehicles entering and exiting through the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge has exceeded 5.2 million vehicle trips. Starting from the 25th of this month, the “Canton southbound” program will add 5 inland cities, and the daily reservation quota for travel will also increase to 200 vehicles. Chan said that the two sets of policies actively promote the “one-hour living circle” in the Greater Bay Area, fostering deeper integration and exchanges among the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

As the current government enters its 5th year of governance, Chan Mei-po summarized the work from the past 4 years, saying that in terms of land transport, from the “everyone enjoys seamless access” program, to promoting the normalization of autonomous driving, to heavy rail and smart, green mass transit systems, and to actively opening up connections between cross-border railways and the Northern Metropolis️, regardless of the size of the projects, their aim is to make commuting more convenient for residents.

In aviation️, Hong Kong International Airport connects to around 220 flight routes worldwide. The team continues to expand the service network, especially in the “Belt and Road” regions, helping the country build the “Air Silk Road.” In line with the national goal of developing new quality productive forces, the Transport and Logistics Bureau also continues to promote low-altitude economy planning. This year, it will release an action outline for the low-altitude economy to open up an entirely new logistics and transportation industry for Hong Kong. The authorities are also promoting the upgrade and transformation of the Hong Kong port. Anchored on Hong Kong’s position as a global shipping hub️, they are accelerating the development of high-value-added maritime services, and will connect traditional shipping with modern finance to inject new momentum into the local economy.
