What makes DR Congo a dark horse? Defense + Counterattack + Resilience

DR Congo is one of the most story-rich dark horses of this World Cup.

In the group stage, they beat Uzbekistan 3-1 in the first match, drew 1-1 with powerful Portugal in the second, and lost 0-1 to Colombia in the last. The tactical discipline and defensive resilience shown in these three games far exceeded outside expectations. Striker Yoane Wissa scored 3 goals in the group stage, and with his absolute speed on the counterattack, he could become a weapon to tear apart England's defense.

DR Congo's defensive system is very mature. The five-man defense formation plus double defensive midfielders allowed them to concede only one goal against Portugal's fierce attack. Although England's offense is strong, they have limited options against a packed defense — the group stage match against Ghana is the best proof.

Coach Desabre said before the match: "Being able to stand on the World Cup knockout stage is itself the result of the entire country's long-term football efforts. The team faces England without pressure and will fully enjoy the game." This mentality of "win big, lose nothing" often allows dark horse teams to explode with extraordinary energy.
