Apple Indian partner leak: Over 200k confidential documents on the dark web, iPhone 18 Pro details exposed
Apple supply chain suffers major information security incident.
On July 1, according to Reuters, the hacker group "World Leaks" recently published over 200k internal files allegedly from Tata Electronics on the dark web, including a large number of R&D materials, test photos, and internal codenames marked with Apple's "Confidential" watermark. The leaked content involves the unreleased iPhone 18 Pro product, making it one of the most serious information leaks in Apple's supply chain in recent years.
Citing sources, the report stated that Apple has launched an investigation into the incident and is working with Tata Electronics to develop long-term security measures. As part of the investigation, Tata has restricted employee access to sensitive systems and hired an international consulting firm to conduct a digital forensics audit to determine the cause of the data breach.
This incident comes as Apple continues to accelerate the shift of iPhone production to India, and Tata Electronics has become one of Apple's most important manufacturing partners in the country. The leak has once again drawn market attention to Apple's supply chain security and its India manufacturing strategy.
Over 200k files leaked to the dark web, iPhone 18 Pro R&D materials exposed
The data breach was perpetrated by the hacker group "World Leaks," which has previously claimed responsibility for cyberattacks on multinational companies such as Nike.
Currently, the overall authenticity of the relevant files cannot be independently verified. However, multiple sources close to the core of the incident told Reuters that a significant portion of the materials indeed originated from Tata Electronics' internal systems.
Tech media outlet AppleInsider first reported last week that the leaked content includes information related to the iPhone 18 Pro. Reuters later confirmed that multiple folders contain R&D materials for Apple's next flagship model.
Notably, some files still retain Apple's internal "Confidential" watermark, and the product codenames closely match those of the iPhone 18 Pro project, which to some extent increases the credibility of the files.
Engineering prototype details leaked, supply chain security vulnerabilities exposed
The leaked content not only includes internal documents but also a large number of R&D test images.
According to documents reviewed by Reuters, a folder labeled "iPhone 18 Pro" contains drop test photos taken in early 2026 at a manufacturing plant operated by Tata Electronics. The images show a test device with a traditional flat design, a gray body, a triple-camera module on the back, and Apple's logo.
Although Reuters cannot 100% confirm the device model, informed sources said that the photos correspond to engineering verification test prototypes of the iPhone 18 Pro. This means that key hardware details of Apple's next flagship product have been widely leaked before its official release.
Apple and Tata Electronics have not commented on the leak. However, Reuters previously reported that Apple has launched an internal investigation and is working with Tata Electronics to assess medium- to long-term security remediation plans. As an emergency measure, Tata Electronics has restricted access to some internal systems and hired a global consulting firm to conduct a digital forensics investigation to identify the attack path and the scope of the impact.
For Apple, this incident not only weakens its new product confidentiality mechanisms but also touches on the core trust foundation of their cooperation, potentially having a profound impact on future supply chain collaboration and information security management models.
