Honors 2026丨Kai Tak Sports Park Director Yu Dasong Receives the Chief Executive’s Community Service Award, Recognizing Contributions to the Preparations for the National Games

The government today commended a number of community figures, including Yu Dasong, Director (Security and Critical Computer Systems) of Kai Tak Sports Park, who was presented with the “Chief Executive’s Community Service Award” in recognition of his contributions to the preparations for the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the 9th Special Olympics World Games. He said that he felt honored, and added:

“This honor is by no means personal; it is the result of the collective efforts of the entire team. From frontline operations staff to the logistics support team, the professional dedication and steadfast commitment of every colleague are all indispensable to our success. I sincerely thank the National Games Coordination Office of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau for its thoughtful guidance, as well as the strong support from various government departments, volunteer teams, and the general public. It is precisely through the seamless cooperation among all sectors of society and working together with one heart that all events of the National Games could be held efficiently, in an orderly manner, and safely.”

The Sports Park said that the National Games jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao is an important milestone in promoting regional sports cooperation and integrated development. As one of the main venues in the Hong Kong competition zone, the Park shoulders the important task of hosting multiple events, including handball (men’s), rugby sevens, fencing, and the Paralympic sport of boccia (hard court bowls). During the event preparation process, the Park team had to face multiple challenges, including the technical requirements of different sports events, international-standard venue requirements, cross-regional operating models, as well as complex work such as security, transportation, crowd-flow management, and information system management during the events. In addition, cross-department coordination was required: the team worked closely with the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Police, the Fire Services Department, the Transport Department, and medical emergency response units to ensure that all arrangements connect smoothly; meanwhile, the Park maintained effective communication with sports associations, the event organizing committee, and relevant stakeholders, completing all high-standard preparatory work within a limited timeframe.

Yu Dasong: Continue to uphold the spirit of excellence and precision, and promote sports development in Hong Kong

Yu Dasong said that during the National Games preparation period, Kai Tak Sports Park was at a critical stage—newly completed and gradually being put into operation. The Park was also in a phase of exploration and optimization in areas such as facilities operation, aligning competition standards, and establishing internal procedures. Moreover, because there are differences across regions in competition rules, technical standards, and operating models, the team had to carry out extensive coordination, testing, and adjustments to meet the requirements of national-level events. In this process, professional advice from sports professionals, as well as repeated cross-agency drills and tests, greatly improved overall preparation efficiency and quality, providing important assurance for the smooth conduct of the events.

Looking ahead, Yu Dasong said that Kai Tak Sports Park will continue to uphold the spirit of excellence and precision, fully support the SAR government’s sports development strategy, and promote the development of sports in Hong Kong toward the directions of popularization, elite-level advancement, mega events, professionalization, and industrialization. At the same time, the Park will actively introduce more international sports, cultural, and entertainment events, further deepen the synergistic benefits of “sports + tourism” and “events + tourism,” driving economic growth and enhancing Hong Kong’s international image.

In addition, this morning since the Sports Park held its grand opening at the Central Plaza, it also hosted its first flag-raising ceremony and sports experience fair to celebrate the 1 July handover anniversary. The atmosphere on site was lively, drawing large numbers of residents to participate. Through the solemn flag-raising ceremony and diverse sports experiences, everyone shared the joy of the festivities and demonstrated community cohesion.
