The “Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles” scheme has been in place for three years. Secretary for Transport and Logistics Chan Mei-po said on social media that over the past three years, the cumulative number of vehicles entering and exiting via the Zhuhai highway port checkpoint of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge has exceeded 5.2 million. Starting from the 25th of this month, the “Southbound Travel for Guangdong Vehicles” scheme will add 5 new mainland cities, and the daily reservation quota for travel will also increase to 200 vehicles. Chan said that these two policies actively help promote the Greater Bay Area’s “one-hour living circle,” fostering deeper integration and exchange within the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

With the current government entering its fifth year of governance, Chan Mei-po summarized the work of the past four years, saying that in terms of land transportation, from the “Barrier-Free Access for All” initiative, to promoting the normalization of autonomous driving, heavy rail, and smart green mass transit systems, to actively forging connections between cross-border railways and the Northern Metropolis, the purpose of every project—regardless of its size—is to make citizens’ travel more convenient.

In aviation, Hong Kong International Airport connects to approximately 220 flight routes worldwide. The team continues to expand its service network, especially in “Belt and Road” regions, helping the country build an “Air Silk Road.” In line with the national goal of developing new quality productive forces, the Transport and Logistics Bureau will also continue to promote low-altitude economic planning. Within this year, it will issue a low-altitude economic action outline to open up a brand-new logistics and transportation industry for Hong Kong. In shipping as well, the authorities are promoting the upgrade and transformation of the Hong Kong port—anchoring on its status as a global shipping hub—to accelerate the development of high-value-added maritime services, and to integrate traditional shipping with modern finance, injecting new momentum into the local economy.
