Wang Yi and Rubio held a phone conversation, hoping the US side will treat Taiwan-related matters with extreme caution.
A member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke by phone with U.S. Secretary of State Rubio. He specifically noted that the Taiwan question is one that affects the whole situation with a single move, and he hopes the U.S. side will handle related matters concerning Taiwan with the utmost care.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Wang Yi spoke by phone with Rubio on June 30. He said that in May this year, President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump reached a series of important consensuses in Beijing, including the establishment of a “China-U.S. constructive and stable strategic relationship,” which provides strategic guidance and makes clear development directions for China-U.S. relations for the next 3 years and even longer. He emphasized that building a constructive and stable strategic relationship is what both peoples of the two countries aspire to, what the international community hopes for, and what both sides’ fundamental interests depend on. The two sides should remove interference, overcome obstacles, and move forward firmly along this correct direction.
Wang Yi said the two sides should always uphold the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, and turn the important consensuses reached by the two heads of state into specific policies and practical measures.
He said that building a constructive and stable stable strategic relationship is not just a slogan; it requires action—moving in the same direction and sustaining efforts over the long term. To that end, both sides should expand the list of cooperation, create more positive agendas, while compressing the list of issues and managing various risks and potential trouble spots. He said that the Taiwan question is one that affects the whole situation with a single move, and he hopes the U.S. side will handle related matters concerning Taiwan with the utmost care.
Both sides agreed that this phone call between the foreign ministers was positive and constructive. They agreed to jointly implement the important consensuses reached by the two heads of state, and to continue maintaining communication in a flexible manner.
Separately, according to reports from U.S. media, the Trump administration is drafting new rules to ban China’s solar inverters to prevent China from possibly using these devices to disrupt the U.S. power supply. The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. responded that it opposes the U.S. side’s broadening of the concept of national security and its unreasonable crackdown on Chinese companies, and it calls on the U.S. to provide Chinese companies with a fair, just, and non-discriminatory business environment.
