💔 Scrolling through the news about the European heatwave, I can’t help but feel quite moved and saddened. On the other hand, it’s also especially surreal that Midea air conditioners are selling for more than 2,000 euros.

You see, with all the overly fussy environmental restrictions and installation hurdles in Europe, Midea somehow managed to perfectly sidestep every requirement. In this make-or-break survival test, it simply crushed a host of international home-appliance brands—so much so that one unit is hard to find.

I often find myself wondering why it’s people from our country who come up with products that can solve real pain points at critical moments, while Europe—the old industrial powerhouse—can’t make them themselves. Setting aside deindustrialization, it really feels like they’re being turned against by their own overly complex regulatory closed loop.

💪 Looking at our design and supply chain instead, they’re always practical and always efficient. Sometimes the simplest approach is the best—being able to steadily and reliably solve everyone’s most fundamental needs is the true “dimensionality reduction” strike~
