Changpeng Zhao failed to reserve his preferred WhatsApp username during the app’s global rollout this week. WhatsApp began letting users reserve custom usernames as the app replaces phone numbers as the main way to connect. Security researchers recommend enabling the optional username key manually because Meta leaves it off by default.
