Yesterday’s World Cup Round of 16 matches between the USA, Canada, and Mexico saw plenty of upsets, with many ties full of twists. Brazil took on Japan: Sano Kaishu struck first with a long-range effort in the first half. After Casemiro headed it level, Martinelli completed a dramatic stoppage-time winner, and Brazil edged through 2-1. With that, all Asian teams were eliminated.

Two European heavyweights were also knocked out in successive penalty shootouts. Germany and Paraguay finished 1-1 after 120 minutes. Havertz and Tah both missed penalties, and Germany were eliminated in a shock, losing 4-5 on aggregate. The Netherlands faced the same penalty curse: Gakpo found the net, but Diop leveled with a stoppage-time header. Several players also missed in the shootout, and Morocco won 4-3 to advance.

Elsewhere, France beat Sweden 3-0 with ease. Mbappé scored twice, setting a new record for goals in the World Cup knockout stage, while Olise provided two assists to lead the assist chart. In the span of a single day, multiple strong teams were eliminated—showing the harshness of the knockout rounds in full. Stoppage-time comebacks and penalty-deciding moments followed one after another, keeping the suspense of this World Cup running at full volume.
