Fujian's water supply to Kinmen has cumulatively exceeded 50 million tons

On July 1, Fujian's water supply to Kinmen cumulatively exceeded 50 million tons. Since 2026, the project has supplied an average of about 22k tons of water per day, ensuring the full range of water needs for Kinmen's residential life, industrial production, and ecological replenishment, making the people's livelihood benefit of "two sides of the strait are one family, drinking from the same river" a reality and warming hearts. Hong Jiaxing, general manager of Fujian Water Investment Group Jinjin Water Supply Co., Ltd., the project's operating unit, introduced that with nearly eight years of continuous, safe, and stable water supply, Fujian's high-quality water source has become the core pillar of Kinmen's water supply system, ending the historical problem of Kinmen's long-term water shortage and water scarcity. The latest water usage data statistics show that among the current total water distribution of the Kinmen County Waterworks, Fujian's diverted water accounts for 87%, and the project's water supply quality pass rate has remained stable at 100% year-round. According to reports, the stable and reliable water supply has greatly alleviated the pressure of excessive groundwater extraction in the Kinmen area. Kinmen's reliance on groundwater for residential water use has dropped from a historical high of 68% to 0.3% today, with an average daily reduction of 13,385 tons of groundwater extraction. The new water supply system has effectively curbed prominent ecological risks such as the continuous decline of the groundwater level and seawater intrusion, helping the local water resource recycling and ecological environment develop positively, making up for the water usage shortcomings of Kinmen's agricultural production and cultural tourism industry development, injecting development momentum, effectively enhancing the sense of gain, happiness, and security of Kinmen residents, and making the achievements of cross-strait integrated development truly benefit Kinmen compatriots. Hong Jiaxing said that since the water supply began, the Fujian-Kinmen water supply project has received over 100 batches of Taiwanese compatriots for visits and study tours, with a total reception volume exceeding 3,000 person-times. During on-site observation and exchange, the Taiwanese compatriots intuitively felt the mainland's measures to benefit Taiwan and its people, deeply understanding that the two sides share the same roots, culture, and ethnicity. The Fujian-Kinmen water supply project is a model of cross-strait cooperation in the field of people's livelihood. The project started construction in October 2015 and officially began water supply operations in August 2018. (Xinhua News Agency)
