Illinois Enacts 0.2% Crypto Transaction Tax as Federal Rules Advance

Illinois enacted a 0.2% tax on nearly every crypto trade, transfer, or custody service run for an Illinois resident. The tax takes effect January 1, 2027, after Governor JB Pritzker signed the Digital Asset Tax Act in mid-June.
