China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, spoke at the Security Council's open debate on children and armed conflict on the 24th, urging the international community to work together to fulfill the unshirkable moral responsibility of protecting children. Fu Cong stated that last year, the United Nations verified more than 38k cases of serious violations against children in conflict zones, involving over 24k children, with the number of child killings surging by 34% compared to the previous year, which is deeply shocking. China condemns all acts of violence against children. All parties to conflicts must strictly abide by international humanitarian law and relevant Security Council resolutions, and fulfill their obligations to protect civilians, especially children. The protracted conflicts in the Middle East, Ukraine, Sudan, and elsewhere have long dragged on; the international community should rise above geopolitical gaming, reject inappropriate interference and pressure, and push the conflicting parties to achieve ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, bridging differences and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
