The Japanese government is funding the creation of a Japanese version of Starlink.

Jinse Finance reports that on June 30, according to a June 30 report by the Nikkei, Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has recently advanced a special program intended to fund domestic companies’ development of direct-to-mobile satellite communication. It is understood that the program’s funding targets are expected to be locked in to the Rakuten group alliance in Japan. The report says the Japanese government will provide a total of 150 billion yen (about 6.3 billion yuan) over the next 3 years to support projects such as satellite launches. From the perspective of economic security, this move is intended to break away from reliance on overseas technology in this field.
