Wu learned that, according to Galaxy Research data, Casascius is a physical coin containing a Bitcoin private key. If the hologram is peeled off, the private key is exposed, allowing the BTC inside to be spent on-chain. Between 2011 and 2013, approximately 28k Casascius physical coins were minted, holding a total of 91,469 BTC. Over time, holders have continuously peeled and extracted coins, leaving only about 35,300 BTC remaining in these unpeeled physical coins.
