In the current market, is it better to trade futures or spot?

The most important thing right now is to learn swing trading.
Have you noticed that many past experiences no longer work, especially "holding spot is fearless"?
Many people held spot forever and lost 80%-90%.
In the past, many suggested playing spot, not futures, and you could make money over time. But now the market is more mature, and it's no longer an era where you can make money by just holding forever.
Whether you play spot or futures, the most important thing now is to learn swing trading. You can no longer obsess over making tens of times on a single coin by holding it forever.
Now such coins are becoming fewer. Among hundreds of coins on exchanges, at most one or two will rise 1-3 times.
The probability of you catching them is too low.
Now whether you trade futures or spot, you really take a bite and run. Catching 10%-30% is already pretty good.
Some crypto friends I know all held spot forever, and now they've basically lost 90%. They need a 10x increase just to break even. I can say clearly that for such people, there's basically no chance of breaking even.
In the future, the crypto world will also move closer to traditional financial markets, with smaller and smaller fluctuations. As Tony said, there are no more dividends.
Getting rich depends on two things: big capital and big volatility.
In previous bull runs, there were one or two 1000x coins, and many 100x coins. Now it's basically impossible on the secondary market.
In today's crypto world, it's not about futures or spot. You need to do swing trading. Stop fantasizing about turning things around by making tens of times on a single coin.
Accumulate small wins into big wins.

Indeed, the logic of just holding spot assets and winning easily in the past has failed. Now we need to be more flexible.

Large funds + large volatility — that sums it up perfectly. Retail investors have no information advantage and can only rely on execution.

Swing trading demands a higher level of mental discipline; frequent trading makes it easy to miss out or sell too early—so you need to have your own discipline.
