Abstract generation in progress
Mars Finance reports that a research note from CITIC Securities said that a wave of capacity expansion for optical fiber preforms and optical fibers is on the way. This year, optical fiber prices have risen sharply, improving investment returns significantly and prompting the launch of optical fiber preform expansion plans. We believe that AI development is clearly boosting demand for optical fibers, and the industry still faces a shortage. Although multiple companies plan to expand production, first, most companies have relatively limited experience in manufacturing optical fiber preforms, so it remains to be seen whether they can expand on schedule; second, even if expansion proceeds as planned, most of the capacity will be released in the second half of next year or later, so it will not meaningfully affect the industry’s supply-and-demand landscape this year or even next year. Moreover, AI demand may be even stronger, so there’s no need to be overly concerned in the short term.
