Wu Says learned that the United States, Japan, and South Korea held a trilateral diplomatic working group meeting on North Korea's cyber threats in Washington from June 25 to 26, coordinating responses to North Korea's revenue generation through cryptocurrency theft, money laundering, IT personnel infiltration schemes, and other malicious cyber activities. The three countries expressed concern over North Korea's cryptocurrency theft and cited incidents such as the theft of approximately $290 million from KelpDAO and $285 million from Drift Protocol, pledging to increase exposure and risk warnings regarding North Korea's crypto theft activities, particularly in regions such as Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa. At the same time, the three sides pointed out that the risk of North Korean IT personnel using AI technology to commit fraud is rising, and will support industry efforts to enhance detection and prevention capabilities, while continuing to strengthen law enforcement cooperation and international sanctions enforcement to curb North Korea's illegal income from cyber activities. Companies such as Coinbase, Mandiant Threat Intelligence, Polymarket, and Upwork also participated in the working group's first private sector meeting.
