Mars Finance News, according to CoinDesk, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine announced that it has transferred over $8.3 million worth of USDT to a crypto wallet controlled by the country's asset recovery agency ARMA (National Asset Search, Tracking and Management Agency). This marks the first time in Ukrainian history that seized crypto assets have been successfully placed under state management.

The transfer was made pursuant to a court order, stemming from an investigation by the National Bureau of Investigation into an international hacker group. The involved funds came from the wallet of a member of the group. The group is accused of attacking individuals and companies in Europe and the United States, stealing data and extorting money. The proceeds were laundered in Ukraine through high-value assets such as real estate and cars. Currently, four suspects have been detained but not yet sentenced, with estimated losses exceeding $100 million.

The report notes that the funds are currently only in custody and have not been formally confiscated; confiscation requires a court verdict. This case comes at a time when Ukraine is considering establishing a strategic cryptocurrency reserve, similar to the approach previously considered by the United States. The reserve would be funded by crypto assets confiscated from criminal and civil cases, rather than purchased from the open market.
