Golden Finance reported that on June 29, Morningstar analyst Jing Jie Yu stated that uncertainty over potential capital expenditures by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix may be weighing on their stock prices. The two companies may plan to spend a total of approximately 2,000 trillion Korean won over the next decade, nearly double Morningstar's capital expenditure estimate. He noted that this could include SK Hynix's plans to invest in AI data centers, with its committed investment in the Yongin wafer cluster already expected to reach 600 trillion Korean won. The analyst pointed out that if SK Hynix's AI data center commitments are separate from its potential capital expenditure plans, memory chip makers will face a significant risk of oversupply, as demand tends to taper off in the later years of the capex cycle.
