Serenity: POET optical interconnect demand outlook optimistic, laser supply tightness may persist until 2029.
BlockBeats news, June 29, Serenity posted that Poet Technologies management pointed out that the top three global laser suppliers currently control about 68% of the market share, and their production capacity for the next two years is fully sold out. This means that after LITE's CEO previously predicted that the laser supply shortage would last until 2028, POET's statement further suggests that the supply shortage may extend to 2029, and the optical device industry still faces key component bottlenecks.
POET also disclosed that the company is conducting a high-power external light source (ELS) project based on its Interposer platform with a new customer, and expects to start mass production ramp-up in the second half of this year. In addition, the company expects that its commercial cooperation with Lumilens could contribute over $500 million in revenue over the next five years, while market sources say that Lumilens's first customer is one of the top three global hyperscale cloud service providers.
In terms of capacity planning, POET stated that the current annual production capacity of optical engines is about 1 million units, and the market demand is expected to increase to about 1 million units per month by the end of 2027, which would require approximately a 10-fold expansion in capacity. Serenity believes that if the company can achieve the above capacity and commercialization goals, its development prospects will be very positive. However, since the specific hyperscale customer name has not yet been disclosed, compared to some peers that have already disclosed customer resources, its growth expectations still need further verification.
